Pokémon Day 2025 was a blast for fans, thanks to the Pokémon Presents presentation. It was loaded with reveals and updates for games, the Trading Card Game, mobile apps, and animation. There was something for everyone!
Pokémon Legends: Z-A: A New Adventure in a Familiar City

A new trailer for Pokémon Legends: Z-A gave us a deeper look at this action RPG set in Lumiose City. The game has a unique storyline about an urban redevelopment plan that mixes humans and Pokémon. You’ll choose your first partner from Chikorita, Tepig, or Totodile, and battle in real-time, with Mega Evolution making a comeback! Pokémon Legends: Z-A is scheduled to release in late 2025. I’m personally super excited for this one – it looks great! The new battle system is a highlight, and I’m really interested to see how they utilize characters from the original Kalos region games since this takes place after those.
Pokémon Champions: Take on the World in Core Pokémon Battles
Competitive battling fans have a new challenge: Pokémon Champions, for Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. It’s designed to bring core game-style battles to everyone and will be compatible with Pokémon HOME, so you can bring your favorite Pokémon from other games. Moving competitive battling out of the main games to a dedicated app seems like a great idea. This should allow for a more stable and balanced experience, freeing up Game Freak to focus on the main series RPGs.
Pokémon Trading Card Game Updates: Digital and Physical

The Pokémon Trading Card Game received updates for both its digital and physical versions. The Pokémon TCG Pocket mobile app, which recently surpassed 100 million downloads, will add Ranked Matches in March 2025. For those who prefer physical cards, the Mega Evolution series of expansions is coming in 2025, featuring Mega Evolution Pokémon ex like Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex.
Beyond the Games
Pokémon Presents also delivered updates on other aspects of the Pokémon universe:
- Pokémon Concierge: New episodes of this stop-motion animated series will be released on Netflix in September 2025.
- Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: Tera Raid Battle events and Mass Outbreaks are coming to the games.
- Pokémon GO: Pokémon GO Tour: Unova will take place from March 1-2.
- Pokémon UNITE: Suicune, Alolan Raichu, and Alcremie will be added as playable characters.
- Pokémon Café ReMix: A new apple-based menu item will be available, and Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly will be available in special outfit packs.
- Pokémon Masters EX: May (Champion) & Shiny Primal Kyogre and Brendan (Champion) & Shiny Primal Groudon will be added to the game.
- While these updates are nice, they weren’t as captivating as the news about the new games. The mobile titles, in particular, seem to just be getting minor updates.
- This year’s Pokémon Presents was a testament to the enduring popularity and constant evolution of the Pokémon franchise. With new games, exciting updates, and expansions on the horizon, there’s never been a better time to be a Pokémon fan.
