The Pokémon Company group held a special Pokémon Presents online event on on Tuesday, offering a series of announcements across its franchise, including new game titles, animated series, and a dedicated theme park attraction. The presentation notably began with a segment dedicated to the Pokémon World Championship, an initial focus that preceded the new product announcements.
Expanding Media: Animation and a Permanent Park
Among the initial reveals was a new stop-motion animated series, ‘Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu’, set to debut in 2027. This project is a collaboration between Pokémon and Aardman Animation, known for its work on Wallace & Gromit. The series aims to provide a unique visual perspective on the Pokémon world through Aardman’s distinctive character, comedy, and craft. Its aesthetic offers a somewhat unconventional concept compared to previous animated Pokémon projects, diverging notably from past entries like Pokémon Evolutions. A teaser for the series is currently available on the official Pokémon YouTube channel. New episodes for the Netflix stop-motion animated series ‘Pokémon Concierge’ are also scheduled for September 4.
In a move to expand the franchise’s physical presence, The Pokémon Company announced PokéPark Kanto, described as the first “permanent outdoor Pokémon attraction.” Scheduled to open in 2026 within Japan’s Yomiuriland amusement park, the park will feature over 600 Pokémon and be divided into two main areas: Sedge Town, intended as a gathering place for Trainers and Pokémon, and the Pokémon Forest, where visitors can observe Pokémon interacting. Initial reactions to the concept and details suggest the park appears promising, and further information is anticipated by fans regarding its full scope and attractions as tickets are expected to go on sale later this year.
New Game Titles: Mobile and Competitive Play

The presentation introduced two new game titles for various platforms. Pokémon Friends, a new puzzle game, became available immediately on Nintendo Switch (compatible with Nintendo Switch 2), iOS, and Android devices for $15.99. Developed in collaboration with Wonderfy Inc., the game involves solving Pokémon-inspired brainteasers to earn yarn, which is then used to create in-game Pokémon plushies via the Plush-O-Matic. Players can engage in friend quests to assist residents of Think Town, decorate customizable in-game plush rooms, and access over 1,200 puzzles. While Pokémon Friends presents as a straightforward puzzle game, there is an underlying curiosity about how The Pokémon Company International might introduce more creative mechanics or evolve its gameplay in the future. A “Pokémon Friends Combo Bundle” is also available, including the game and two Puzzle On Packs.

Looking ahead to 2026, Pokémon Champions was announced for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android devices. Visually, Pokémon Champions showcases impressive graphics. The game allows Trainers to recruit Pokémon for their teams through Trial Recruitment for temporary use in battles or Permanent Recruitment using Victory Points (VP), earned through methods such as Ranked Battles. These Victory Points can also be used to train Pokémon, allowing players to customize stats and Abilities, a feature that appears designed to simplify the process of raising competitively viable Pokémon, potentially making competitive play more accessible. The game will support both Single and Double Battle formats across Ranked, Casual, and Private Battle modes, and players will be able to transfer their own Pokémon from Pokémon Home for use in online matches.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A

A significant portion of the event focused on Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which is set to launch on October 16, 2025, for both the original Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2. Players will explore a redeveloped Lumiose City, a vibrant urban environment. During the day, Trainers can find Pokémon in wild zones, where they may encounter Alpha Pokémon, larger and more powerful variants. At night, players can compete in the Z-A Royale, battling increasingly powerful Trainers, including a promotional match against Corbeau, the boss of the Rust Syndicate.

The narrative structure of Pokémon Legends: Z-A appears to mirror its predecessor, Legends: Arceus, focusing on investigative quests within the city. Characters such as Emma, a detective, will task players with tracking missing Pokémon and items, while Mable, now the acting director of the Pokémon Research Lab, will seek assistance in analyzing Pokémon populations, offering TMs and other rewards. Players will also be invited to join Team MZ, a group dedicated to maintaining peace in Lumiose City. While the trailer for Pokémon Legends: Z-A was compelling, it largely maintained a degree of narrative mystery, revealing key plot points such as the intriguing phenomenon of Rogue Mega Evolution without detailing the full scope of the story. This phenomenon involves wild Pokémon mysteriously Mega Evolving on their own and rampaging through Lumiose City. Quasartico Inc., a corporation involved in the city’s redevelopment, will task the player and Team MZ with investigating and calming these Pokémon, with successful Trainers obtaining Mega Stones as rewards. The reveal of new Mega Evolutions, with Mega Dragonite being explicitly showcased, also suggested the potential for further undiscovered Mega-Evolved forms within the game. Mega Dragonite features distinctive Dragonair-like characteristics, including head wings and a pearl on its tail, and is noted for enhanced speed and flight range.

A Nintendo Switch 2 + Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition bundle will be available for $499.99 in the United States, launching concurrently with the game. Pre-orders began on July 23, 2025. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is stated to offer improved performance, enhanced resolution, and smoother frame rates compared to the Switch 1 version, with an upgrade option available for $9.99 for those who purchase the Switch 1 version. Returning characters include Mable, previously a high-ranking member of Team Flare, now director of the Pokémon Research Lab, along with AZ and Emma, further connecting the game to Pokémon X and Y.
