Pixel Watch 2
The Pixel Watch 2, being only the second iteration, may not represent a groundbreaking upgrade, but it brings some notable new features into play. These include Safety Check and call screening, previously exclusive to Pixel phones. Particularly intriguing are the enhancements in its multipath heart rate sensor and the addition of an electrodermal sensor, which measures sweat for various applications. The Pixel Watch 2 is priced starting at $349 and includes a complimentary 6-month subscription to Fitbit Premium.
Pixel 8
Google touts the Pixel 8 series as a substantial leap forward, although skepticism remains among some. This latest release includes the Pixel 8 Pro and the Pixel 8. The Pixel 8 Pro boasts a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display with HDR support, a 48 MP Quad PD ultrawide camera, and a 48 MP Quad PD telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom, all powered by the Google Tensor G3 processor. Storage options extend up to a whopping 1 TB, offering robust performance and storage capacity. In contrast, the Pixel 8 features a more compact design, with storage choices up to 256 GB and 8 GB LPDDR5X RAM. Both phones provide IP68 dust and water resistance, a 10.5 MP dual PD selfie camera, an Always-on display, and extended battery life with Extreme Battery Saver, catering to diverse user preferences and needs. Notably, Google has also announced a partnership with iFixit to facilitate easier access to replacement parts, making the devices more repair-friendly.
Software
The Pixel 8 series introduces significant software enhancements, featuring Android 14 and an extended 7-year support commitment, ensuring a long-term software experience for users. These devices also incorporate AI features, such as dynamic language switching for speech-to-text and Google Assistant with Bard, enhancing user interactions. The Pixel 8 Pro introduces on-device Gen AI image models and the intriguing Zoom Enhance feature, offering advanced image capabilities akin to science fiction. Furthermore, camera improvements, including Audio Magic Eraser and HDR Layering for videos, along with Pro controls in the Google Camera app, contribute to an enriched photography and videography experience.
Other Announcements
Additionally, there were a few smaller announcements during the event. The Pixel Buds Pro are set to receive Bluetooth Super Wideband support and software improvements for various features. Lastly, the Google Home app will gain the ability to use generative AI for creating routines.
