On Tuesday, Apple their ‘Hi-Speed’ Event. They announced details about this years iPhones and a few other things. This event didn’t have any mentions of Macs, so I assume that there will be another event next month focusing on Apple Silicon.
The HomePod Mini is a smaller HomePod like it sounds. It’s shaped like most smart speakers these days and will cost $99. Apple also announced that HomePod will be getting a new intercom mode which can also reach iPhones, iPads Apple Watch, AirPods and, CayPlay devices. It’ll also function as a smart home hub and be integrated with the Find My network. The HomePod Mini will cost $99, come in black and white and, preorders start on November 8 and will release November 16.
All the new iPhone models will have the A14 Bionic which has 6 cores and is built on a 5 nm process. This years iPhones will support 5G (in all of its forms) for the first time. It was also announced that iPhones will now support the MagSafe wireless charging system which uses magnets to align the device with the charging pad.
Apple announced that there will be two variants of the standard iPhone 12, the Mini will have a 5.4-inch screen and the regular model will have a 6-inch screen. The screen will have 460 ppi and 1200 nit peak brightness. The 12 will have camera system will include an Ultra-wide lens with a 120-degree field of view and the Wide camera has f/1.6 aperture. They will also support Apple’s Smart HDR and Dolby Vision recording.
iPhone 12 Pro
The main difference between the base and Pro models is the camera system. The 12 Pro camera adds a telephoto lens and the ability to record 4K Dolby in 60fps. The Pro Max gains a higher focal length on the telephoto lens. The other new feature that the Pro models gain is LIDAR for AR.
