This Week In Tech – October 24, 2021

This week has been super busy in the tech industry, Apple, Google and, Samsung all held hardware announcement events.

Apple Event

At their event on Monday, Apple announced details about their new pro-tier Mac chips. They also announced new upgraded Macbook Pros. Some of the highlights are the return of the ports Apple removed from Macbooks in 2016 and MagSafe.

Made By Google 2021

During their annual Made by Google event, Google announced the next generation of Pixel phones. The Pixel 6 & 6 Pro will for the first time have Google’s in-house built Tensor SoC. Both devices get a new camera system 1/1.3 inch sensor on the back. with the Pro additionally getting 20x zoom. The Pixel 6 will cost $599 US and the Pro will cost $899. Google announced Pixel Pass which is a 2-year subscription that gets you a Pixel 6 or 6 Pro, both YouTube subscriptions, Google One w/ 200 GB of storage, Play Pass & preferred customer support. It’ll only be available in the US and start at $45 for the Pixel 6 and $55 for the Pixel 6 Pro.

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 2021

The Samsung event was a big nothing burger, they announced no new hardware. All they announced Bespoke Editions of the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Z Flip3. All that means is that you’ll be able to customize colour combinations for the back of the Z Flip and the case and band of the Galaxy Watch.
